Community Connect

Last year, our board president and I had a conversation about goal setting for my first year at Fairbanks. I established three key goals:

  • Improve academic performance
  • Be fiscally responsible
  • Earn the trust and credibility of school district stakeholders

Over the summer, while planning for the school year, my board president asked what my personal goals were for this year. I replied that I have three key goals:

  • Improve academic performance
  • Be fiscally responsible
  • Earn the trust and credibility of school district stakeholders

I say these goals in jest, but they provide a foundation to much of the work I get to do in Fairbanks. While this year definitely has its challenges, we still have other work occurring across our school district. We have continued and hope to finalize our Mission, Vision, and Strategic Planning process that began in January. It was supposed to be concluded in May, but our closure interrupted our progress. On November 3, a renewal of the 5-Year Permanent Improvement Levy is on the ballot. Please look for informational mailings over the coming weeks. We will be entering negotiations with our Fairbanks Education Association this spring. These long-term planning processes are in addition to the work to support students across our schools.

To be successful with our long-term planning, the building of trust and credibility is essential. To accomplish this goal, our community must have opportunities to connect, listen, learn, and provide feedback regarding our school district. Below are opportunities to connect with me and other district staff:

Community Town Hall

Over the last year, we have hosted several events to continue our communication, collaboration, and connection with the Fairbanks school community. Our annual Town Hall allows an open forum to address issues across the Fairbanks community.

Thursday, November 12 – 7:00 pm (This will be a virtual event as of this writing.)

We will continue to move forward as a school district even as we navigate the challenges presented by COVID-19. To do that, we need to continually earn the trust of school community stakeholders. We hope to see you at our Community Connect opportunities throughout the school year. See you soon!!
