October: Principals, Custodians, and Bus Drivers….Oh My!!

October is a major recognition month for various employees across school districts. October is Principal’s Month across the State of Ohio. October 2 was Custodian’s Day. Finally, October 16-20 is School Bus Safety week and also School Bus Driver week. As you can see, October honors different jobs that make a tremendous difference across our schools.

We are fortunate to have tremendous principals in Fairbanks Local Schools. Ashley Thompson, Teresa Goins, and Janel Chapman focus on students every single day. Our principals work alongside staff and parents to build plans to support the growth of all students. They maximize resources, plan events, and get sprayed with silly string. Teachers are the most important person in student’s learning at school, but with strong building leadership schools and students excel even more. Fairbanks is fortunate to have three exceptional principals.

This year, I have received so much positive feedback from community members about the condition of our buildings. Much of that credit goes to our custodial team. They work over the summer to prepare for the school year. Every day they keep areas clean as we welcome community members into our schools for various events. Typically, they are called on to fix things in classrooms, do jobs that no one else will do, and shift their priority immediately to help our schools operate. Our custodians make a difference every day in Fairbanks.

Next week is Bus Safety Week and Bus Driver Week. Our school bus drivers drive about 250,000 miles every year. They have high levels of training in bus safety and are also the first school employees that students see every day. Bus drivers become trusted adults for both students and their parents. Our transportation team is dedicated to supporting each other. They solve problems, fill in for different routes, and try to find solutions when problems on the road arise.

October is a busy month across Fairbanks Local Schools. Our principals, custodians, and bus drivers are all difference makers across the district. Each job in Fairbanks is important. These individuals serve in roles that make student experiences positive every day. If you see our principals, custodians, and bus drivers, please thank them for all they do for Fairbanks!
